In the center of a maze, Stefan chases Gothel. He thought at first it was Rapunzel, and followed her. Stefan saw a person with long hair at the ball. She chained Hugo to a wall and flew to Stefan's castle. Rapunzel answered back that she didn't know, and Gothel, with Rapunzel's hair, cast a horrible spell upon Rapunzel's tower to keep her locked in it forever. Gothel asked one more about the guy's name. Then she breaks Rapunzel's silver paintbrush. She cuts Rapunzel's hair off, and then she destroyed the paintings. Otto noticed the shine of the paintbrush from the tower's windows and tells Gothel about it. Rapunzel returned to the tower and started painting dresses.
He even invited her to a masquerade ball in honor of his birthday. Rapunzel creates a magical entry into Stefan's kingdom. Rapunzel's hairbrush transforms into a silver paintbrush by a wishing star. Gothel then destroys Rapunzel's paintings and brushes, transforms Rapunzel's room into a tall tower without any exits, and tells Rapunzel it would be worsen if she won't say his name. Rapunzel did not know his name, so she answered honestly that she didn't know. Gothel later appears in Rapunzel's room and asks her the name of the young man Rapunzel met during her walk. When Rapunzel discovers a secret tunnel under the basement and went to the village, Otto, Gothel's pet ferret, told Gothel everything about Rapunzel's trip. At that moment, Gothel called for Rapunzel. Rapunzel was discovered a silver hairbrush that was given her by her biological parents on her first birthday-Rapunzel was confused by this because she had always been told by Gothel that she had been abandoned by her biological parents when she was only a few days old. Penelope found a portrait of Gothel and an unknown man (later to be revealed as Rapunzel's biological father, King Wilhelm) whose face was torn.
Gothel had been invited to may different balls. Rapunzel accidentally discovered many things from Gothel's past in the basement. She also gets furious about the fact that when she found out that one of the steps on the stairs was squeaking.
She categorically dislikes painting, and, when she saw traces of paint on Rapunzel's face, she is furious. Gothel made Princess Rapunzel her own servant, who must keep the manor in perfect order. When Princess Rapunzel, the protagonist of the movie, was a baby, Gothel kidnaps her and puts her in her manor hidden in the dark woods behind a magic wall.
